As any significant prize-giving event nears, you'll find a clamor to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category in 2014
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
- Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
